Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems, and the effects of these disorders on general health. Chiropractic in Greek terminology means hand practitioner. Chiropractors use their hands and knowledge to assess, diagnose and treat naturally without the use of drugs. The most common therapeutic procedure performed by doctors of chiropractic is known as ‘spinal manipulation,’ also called ‘chiropractic adjustment.’ The purpose of manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile (restricted in their movement) as a result of a tissue injury. Chiropractors can also do soft tissue treatments that aid in healing muscles. Chiropractors also teach rehab exercises to strengthen certain muscles.
Chiropractic is the only natural health profession covered by insurance. You do not need a referral from a medical doctor to see a chiropractor.
Chiropractors are considered primary care physicians
Drug-free, non-invasive health care
Chiropractic manipulation is a drug-free, non-invasive manual procedure which utilizes the highly refined skills developed during four intensive years of chiropractic education. Doctors of Chiropractic assess disorders related to the spine, nervous system, and joints of the extremities and provide diagnosis, treatment and prevention of those disorders.
The primary goal of chiropractic manipulation, also referred to as adjustment, is to treat areas of decreased movement in the joints of the spine which can create a reaction in surrounding tissues (ligaments, muscles and nerves) resulting in pain, dysfunction and muscular spasm. Chiropractors are also trained to prescribe therapeutic exercise and other non-invasive therapies including dietary counseling.
Manipulation is a highly controlled procedure, which rarely causes discomfort. The chiropractor adapts the procedure to meet the specific needs of each patient. Patients often note positive changes in their symptoms immediately following treatment.
Primary & complementary care
In many cases, such as with lower back pain, chiropractic care may be the primary method of treatment. Where other medical conditions exist, chiropractic care may complement or support medical treatment by relieving the musculoskeletal aspects of discomfort associated with the condition.
Chiropractic care may also be palliative, providing symptomatic relief to patients with chronic conditions. By treating the musculoskeletal elements of such disorders, chiropractic treatment improves the general well-being of the patient.
Dr. Sunil Pullukat
Hi, I am Dr. Sunil Pullukat, co-founder of Elite. I’m a chiropractor that uses my hands to diagnosis and treat musculoskeletal injuries and prevent pain. After witnessing my mother go through cancer and eventually passing away, I realized that a lot of doctors only care about money and not about actually helping people. I also realized that many doctors are not well versed in natural approaches to increase the quality of life for patients. I got into this field to find what natural treatments are the most effective in helping people reach their goals. I use techniques from all across the world, some ancient, some are new age sport medicine techniques. My goal is to educate and treat patients with the best evidence-based natural methods.
